World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its stats are increased in value. This is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the sheer number of perks that need to be modified to upgrade an item.
Item level is a widely used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. The average level of the item can be found in the character sheet.
The level of an item can help players compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the item's damage and its quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the level of the item.
The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. item upgrading says that the level of an item is calculated by formulas that determine how valuable an item's stats really are. It considers the fact that different perks have different values, and also that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, because the level of the region the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.
Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or other special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.
Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circles arrows. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another aspect that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item level, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are created by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in the early game than later ones because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available from the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it does not work.
The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by 5%.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
