World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade
Item upgrades allow players to raise the item level of armor and weapons that can be equipped. This increases the stats of that equipment, and also sometimes adding buffs or rolling an affix again.
It is important to note that although you can upgrade magic and common equipment, it's generally not worth it. Rare and unique gear will quickly outclass the standard gear and upgraded magic.
Cost
The player must pay gold to upgrade an item. The cost of upgrading an item varies based on the item's current level and the type of upgrade. For instance upgrading a weapon will typically be cheaper than upgrading armor, as weapons have lower requirements for level. The amount of Gold required increases as an item is upgraded.
Upgraded items will also have upgraded stats that will improve its performance in various ways. This could mean increasing its attack power, critical strike chance, or damage per second. A upgraded item can also add additional benefits to the weapon it is equipped with. These upgrades are able to increase the overall power of a group or a single unit, and may significantly impact the gameplay.
Any item upgrader NPC can be found in the game. Typically these NPCs are found in capital cities or major questing locations. You can also find item-upgraders by visiting dungeons with high-level bosses, and speaking to NPCs in garrisons of your faction.
The World of Warcraft item upgrade system allows players to increase the level of their weapons, armor, and trinkets. This process is similar to the reforging process used in Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor. However instead of making use of currency, players will need to visit an item upgrader to complete the process.

Time

Upgrade components can be integrated into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give an attribute benefit or an additional effect while the equipment is equipped. Certain upgrade components come with cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors or the Trading Post, looting or receiving as a gift. Additionally, players can recover upgraded items using an Upgrade Extractor or by salvaging them with a high-tier salvage kit. Glyphs, which are placed in gathering tools can be exchanged without restriction.
A player can turn an item into a different upgradeable item by selecting it and pressing the green button an arrow for reroll. This will change the layout of the game and allow players to select up to six items for "recycling". The item that is recycled will be exchanged with a level 1 item of the same kind. Recycled items will not keep their status, nor will the resources used to upgrade it.
